Description: Amazingly, given the proliferation of recordings of his orchestral music, Suk's chamber output is still very ignored. One recording of the fabulous second quartet available until this one and that made in the 1980s? Well, if you didn't get the Supraphon packaging of three discs of chamber music which came out in 1993, this is the next best thing. Suk was Dvorák's student as well as his son-in-law and Dvorák is his major influence but, if you know Suk's orchestral music, you'll know what to expect here - solid late Romanticism with Bohemian and Moravian flavor, attractive melodies and, often, as in the second quartet, expressive depth. 2 CDs. Minguet Quartet, Matthias Kirschnereit (piano)
