ANTONIO VIVALDI (1678-1741): Dorilla in Tempe, RV 709.
Catalogue Number: 01T011
Description: This 1726 work stands out for being neither a heroic drama nor a tragedy but a pastoral tale about the amorous misadventres of a shepherdess in the vale of Thessaly. Need we say that Vivaldi provides marvellous orchestral support (hunting horns get regular use)? The only suviving version is from 1634 which the composer turned into a pasticcio by using eight arias by Hasse, Leonardo Leo, Geminiano Giacomelli and Domenico Sarri. 2 CDs. Italian-English libretto. Romina Basso (mezzo), Sonia Prina (contralto), Christian Senn (baritone), Chorus of Swiss Radio-Television, I Barocchisti; Diego Fasolis.
