Description: Tansman’s suite comes from 1963 and is in six movements, their titles (Divertimento, Elegie, Fuga, Improvisazione, Canon and Finale-Scherzo) confirming the neo-classical style typical of the composer and foretelling the sharp and concise portraits in sound that are assembled here. Oddly, this is only the second recording in the current catalogue of Penderecki’s 1999 second sonata whose five-movement form suggests both Shostakovich and Schnittke but whose sound-world is closer to the former (collectors familiar with Penderecki's more approachable, late-period style will know what to expect). Karolina Piątkowska-Nowicka (violin), Bogna Czerwińska-Szymula (piano).
