Description: How about a 53-minute piece, completed in 2007, based on music from Greek composer Theodorakis’ film score for the 1964 movie “Zorba the Greek” and from the 1987-88 ballet which the composer expanded from the shorter film score? That’s what his compatriot Katsaris has done and, for good measure, he’s also recorded a 15-minute improvisation based on several of Theodorakis’ songs. Ten minutes of Theodorakis’ own piano music fill out a release sure to appeal to lovers of film music, Greek music and old-fashioned virtuoso pianism. Cyprien Katsaris (piano).
