Description: This long-lived composer spent the majority of his career at the court of Karlsruhe where, among much else, he wrote more than 40 symphonies. Two of those here are from 1795 and are very Haydnesque while the other one is from c.1770 and in the earlier Mannheim style. You might wish for a larger string complement than the string-quartet-plus-violone used here but their ripe Classicism come through all the same. Oddly, while the symphonies are performed on period instruments, the short glass harmonica pieces use the modern, more resonant verrophone. Hof-Capelle Carlsruhe.
