Description: Romberg’s ten cello concertos were considered the ne plus ultra of their time and not only because they were almost the only works in that genre between Haydn’s and Schumann’s. This is late Classicism in its last bloom, which explains why Romberg’s music fell out of favor by the beginning of the 1820s, but it’s a full and beautiful flowering. London Mozart Players; Raphael Wallfisch (cello).
