ALLAN PETTERSSON (1911-1980): Violin Concerto No. 2 (revised version).
Catalogue Number: 02I005
Reference: 777 199
Description: One of the most demanding concertos ever written in terms of its technique and the soloist's necessary powers of concentration, this single-movement, 55-minute work (in which the soloist is almost never silent) derives all of its material from one of Pettersson's early Barefoot Songs. This recording is labeled "revised version": the composer made revisions right after its premiere to produce a greater transparency for listeners. The only previous recording on CD was made by the work's dedicatee, Ida Haendel, for the Caprice label during the same month as its premiere, which was Jan. 25 1980. So it would appear that that was the "original version" and that this, therefore, is a first recording. Isabelle van Keulen (violin), Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra; Thomas Dausgaard.
