Description: Discs from Bulgarian composers of this generation are sadly few and far between, so let's enjoy these new discoveries. Both sonatas are in a developing Bulgarian national style but Stoyanov's of 1934 (the longer at 23 min.) is more firmly grounded in the late Romantic European tradition with Bulgarian folk flavor often present but not as much as in Hadjiev's 1947 work (also in four movements but only 17 min.), which has a much richer vein of it. Vladigerov's original version of the well-known Vardar is joined by a transcription of a movement from the orchestral Suite. Yana Burova (violin), Vesselina Tchakarova (piano).
