Description: Carmichael's music is unpretentious, utterly conservative and tonal, grounded in late Romanticism (see his Falla and Fauré homages and Latin American Suite) and neo-Classicism (the homages to Poulenc and Ravel and the Sonatine). There is a tribute to Liszt, a splashy evocation of late Romantic bravura pianism in the Waltzes and an atmospheric suite of Music from the Dark Side ("The Secret Ceremony", "Before Nightfall", "Elegy" and "Dance with the Devil").
