Description: Collectors of the Marx discs on ASV will not want to miss this collection: Herbstchor is a 19-minute work from 1911 - Marx's first and, for many more years, only orchestral composition. Its splendid aural feast is plainly a precursor to the monumental and opulent Herbstsymphonie which came ten years later. Most of the orchestral songs were written between 1909-11 and, while most develop the Wolf lied tradition, you will hear a few echoes of Mahler and Richard Strauss too. German-English texts. Christine Brewer (soprano), Trinity Boys Choir, Apollo Voices, BBC Symphony Chorus and Orchestra; Jirí Belohlávek.
