Description: These works for diverse, mostly unconventional, pairings of instruments are as inventive and intensely eventful as one might expect of the composer. They traverse a wide range of compositional style, from post-Webernian aphorism to the rich sensuousness of Never Again to the intricate elegant polyphony of the recent Duo Sonata. There is a concentrated seriousness of purpose even in the so-called Divertimento (not at all a lightweight piece); the driven energy of the Percussion Duo, an important work from the late 1970s contrasts vividly with the strained personal drama of the Psalm setting.
