Description: Since Hyperion's Romantic Violin Concerto series is in limbo, this will do nicely: a traditional, three-movement concerto of uncertain date (the composer never catalogued his works and didn't date his manuscripts) in that synthesis of late Romantic French and German styles typical of French-speaking Swiss composers, and an even longer (39 minutes) Poème, whose two movements tell you of the musical and psychological flow - Dal largo dolorosa al doloroso appassionato and Dal moderato con ritmo ostinato all'allegro con gioja. We do know that this one was written around 1909 (almost all Jaques-Dalcroze's orchestral works predate 1914 since, after the war, his business built around his invention of "Eurythmics" took up most of his time) but we don't know if there is an implied program in the work's emotional journey from darkness to light. Rodion Zamuruev (violin), Moscow Symphony Orchestra; Alexander Anissimov.
