Description: A Welsh composer who received early encouragement from Britten, who can be heard as an influence on the elegant clarity of the evocative song cycles, refined composed music with the naturalness of folksong. The Little Suite is an engaging divertimento with a cheeky scherzo and lively outer movements, with allusions to Celtic harp music in the gentle slow movement, a chaconne. This spirit also pervades the serenade-like Berceuse. The 25-minute sonata is in a conventional four-movement form, with a sonata-form opening movement, an elegiac slow movement, a gentle serenade-like intermezzo and a rhythmically incisive finale; all tonal and meticulously crafted, like all the music here. Carolyn Foulkes (soprano), Wendy Dawn Thompson (mezzo), Adam Summerhayes (violin), Nicola Eimer (piano), Sally Pryce (harp), Adam Walker (flute), London Concertante; Gregory Rose.
