Description: Lovely pastoral fare mixed with late Romanticism from Blower, who was the main subject of the first volume in this series three years ago. Milford's is the most meltingly beautiful, recalling Vaughan Williams in his finest pastoral mode and Blower's Eclogue is in the same vein. Kelly, an Australian wounded twice at Gallipoli where he was present at the burial of Rupert Brooke, was killed at the Somme. His five-movement suite is jaunty as well as idyllic. Cooper's 1957 Concertino has a somewhat sharper aspect to it, welcome in such a program. José García Gutiérrez (horn), John McDonough (oboe), Rebecca Hall (flute), Malta Philharmonic Orchestra; Michael Laus.
