IGNAZ PLEYEL (1757-1831): Symphonies in B Flat, Benton 125 and in G, Benton 130, Flute Concerto in C, Benton 106 (ed. Jean-Pierre Rampal [1922-2000]).
Catalogue Number: 02N032
Description: The two symphonies date from around the early 1780s when Haydn was still a dominant influence (Pleyel had studied under Haydn from 1772-76). But he already was distancing himself through his pursuit of melodic richness rather than technical complexity and his finales are of the can't-get-it-out-of-your-head type, especially the rondo of the G major symphony. Neither symphony is otherwise available, nor is the flute concerto from the late 1790s, although, since Rampal edited it for performance, that's just because previous versions are out-of-print. Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä; Patrick Gallois (flute).
