Description: The "father of Norwegian art music" was not Norwegian but a German who only moved to Oslo in 1848. These are early works, roughly from 1815-26, and are based on Viennese Classicism (the famous publisher Johann Anton André adopted Arnold in 1812 and he was taught by several friends of Mozart and members of the Mannheim orchestra), with the latest work, the Fantasie in C minor, inspired by his first experience of Beethoven's Ninth, being the most advanced in style. Torleif Torgersen (Gottlied Hafner fortepiano, Vienna c. 1830).
