Description: Gorgeous, conservative music in the Austro-German late-Romantic tradition with settings of Polish folk poetry (in both orchestral and solo piano guise) and bright and delightful songs in Marek's newer, neo-Classical manner. The Rural Scenes share the atmospheric tone-painting of Strauss' Four Last Songs and are quite masterly in both their vocal writing and imaginative and unobtrusive orchestration. Aficionados of European post-Mahlerian high romanticism will not want to miss this one if you missed it the first time. 2 CDs for the price of 1. No texts. Original 1998-99 Koch Schwann releases.
