Description: The sensuous warmth of Gerhard's 1918 trio owes much to Ravel, accentuating the stylistic gulf which lies between it and works from the other end of his career. Cassadó (1926-29) is influenced by Turina and other Spanish composers and produces a brilliantly virtuoso 16-minute work with plenty of references to Iberian folk music (and imitations of the guitar). Montsalvatge's is almost at the other end of the century (1986-88), whose three short movements (totalling only 12 minutes and titled Balada a Dulcinea, Diálogo con Mompou and Ritornello) are lyrical, expressive and dance-like in turn. Trio Arriaga.
