BERNHARD MOLIQUE (1802-1869): Violin Concertos No. 3 in D Minor, Op. 10 and No. 6 in E Minor, Op. 30.
Catalogue Number: 02O005
Reference: ACC 242487
Description: Published in 1832 and 1846 but possibly dating from somewhat earlier, these concertos once again reaffirm our description of Molique's style which we've used for his string quartets: somewhere between Beethoven and Mendelssohn. What's notable is their much more monumental structure when comparing them with his French-school predecessor (and sometime teacher) Spohr and his model, Rode. Spohr's concertos run between 17 and 26 minutes; these are 31 and 34 minutes respectively, giving them a lofty, magisterial effect closer to Beethoven. Anton Steck (violin), L'arpa festante; Christoph Spering.
