Description: Although Koechlin had used a saxophone in orchestration prior to the period when these duos and etudes were composed, something not mentioned in the notes inspired him to create everything here but the wind ensemble pieces and a couple of other small works between 1943 and 1946. He possessed complete understanding of the technical capabilities of each of the four instruments in the family (all four are used in the Op. 186 duos although Koechlin only specified tenor and alto), making everything both challenging and rewarding for instrumentalists (not to mention listeners who particularly like the soft, velvety tones of the middle two sax voices). 3 CDs.
