Description: As promised, here is the first volume in this series, titled “American First Sonatas” and bringing us two rarities: the first piano sonata composed in North America (circa 1786) which shows that Reinagle knew his Haydn, Clementi and C.P.E. Bach, and Siegmeister’s from 1944 which makes use of several early American folk songs and an African-American protest song to craft an energetic, melodic and instantly approachable 16-minute work. Cecile Licad (piano).
