PERCY SHERWOOD (1866-1939): Suite for 2 Pianos, Sonata for 2 Pianos (First Recordings), HUBERT PARRY (1848-1918): Grosses Duo in E Minor.
Catalogue Number: 02U013
Description: A striking recital of meaty British four-hand music with a heavy German accent, Brahms especially but with Bach also evident in Parry’s c.1875 “Grand Duo” of 19 minutes. Brahms, Schumann and the New German School all get nods in Sherwood’s big, four-movement, 37-minute sonata of 1896. The first movement of his 22-minute suite (from 1901 or 1902) sounds like a Romantic Bach transcription, a Classical minuet follows and Schubert, Mendelssohn and Wagner visit in each of the last three movements. Parnassius Piano Duo.
