Description: In his absorption of influences, from jazz to Middle Eastern music, Jolivet established a new tone for the flute, the oriental infusions of which can be heard in the Incantations of 1937. Chant de Linos, his most popular flute piece, offers a mythic panorama full of lamentation and dance, while the rhythmically complex sonata (1958) and the lyric elements in Ascèses (“Ascetic Practices” from 1967) affirm his musical convictions. Hélène Boulègue (flutes), François Dumont (piano).
