Label: Brilliant Classics
Description: Organist, clavichordist and harpsichordist, Hässler had a touring career in Germany before taking a post in Moscow, where he spent the last 30 years of his life. He was one of many contemporaries Mozart took the opportunity to crap on in a letter home but he now gets his due. Dramatic, theatrical, melancholy, delicate, sometimes bizarre, his music may make you think of one of his early influences, C.P.E. Bach. But several of his Fantasies and sonatas were also printed under the name of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, both of which should give you an idea of what to expect. Michele Benuzzi (harpsichord).
