Description: The second three-disc set of Kalabis to appear in 30 months (see 09M010 for the Supraphon-licensed MSR Classics set which was announced as a "Limited Authorized Edition") supplies the CD catalogue with more large-scale approachable, tonal works of varying styles from post-Romantic to neo-Classical. The two anguished symphonies (No. 2 from 1959-61 in the shadow of the Cold War and Cuban Missile Crisis and No. 3 from 1970-71 plainly influenced by the crushing of the Prague Spring) are central to his œuvre but the agitated and tragic Concerto for Orchestra (1966-67) and the first violin concerto (1958-59) also reflect the fraught international atmosphere of the times. 3 CDs.
