Description: The theme here is the translation of non-classical music into the string quartet genre (Harrison would be here because the fifth movement of his 1978-79 Set uses an old Turkish rhythmic mode; the other four movements' references are medieval and baroque): Frank continues her exploration and evocation of Peruvian music; Evangelista sets pure Spanish folk melodies without harmonizations; Vali's work is based on one of the oldest modes of the Persian modal system while the source of Kats-Chernin's fast, five-minute ride is not mentioned but it was originally composed for performance by robots! Del Sol String Quartet.
