Description: Yet another "British Viola" disc brings new delights, including a warm and tender 7-minute piece written for his teacher Lionel Tertis by the King of Light Music. Scotland is represented by Richardson's 1977 Rhapsody, a 9-minute piece rhythmically robust and richly tonal while Wales checks in with Samuel's triptych (1996) inspired by the view from a small Scottish Highlands village to the mountains of Skye which is now agitatedly contrapuntal, now skittsh and frantic and finally deeply lamenting. Bowen's 1918 Cobbett Prize-winning Phantasy, already offered on Hyperion's two-disc set of his complete viola works, rounds off another winning release. Su Zhen (viola), Simon Lepper (piano).
