Description: This comic one-act opera of 1834, its simple plot involving a chalet owner and her two suitors partly derived from an 1825 Prix de Rome cantata, was Adam’s first major success and it was performed over a thousand times at the Opéra-Comique in the next 40 years. Its extensive spoken dialogue, intended for stage performances, has been reduced for this studio recording. French-English libretto.
