Description: From the First of 1843 to the Fifth of 1909, these quartets literally embrace all of Reinecke’s adult life. But, as we know, the composer was an inveterate conservative and the stylistic range only encompasses Mendelssohn and Schumann to Brahms. Form and melody are his foundations although one can find expansive harmonic structures in the Third of 1874 and this and the Fourth (1890) show what outstanding musicians Reinecke had available in the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. 2 CDs. Reinhold Quartet.
