Description: Third and final installment of this Langgaard cycle includes two sonatas from 1920-21 and 1945-49 respectively – highly accomplished works with strong individual features – and two single-movement pieces composed by Langgaard the precocious teenager: the charming Aubade of 1907, written on a summer holiday with his parents, and the dark-colored Night Watchman’s Song (1906). The Second Sonata is associated chronologically with his Symphony No. 6, the piano work Music of the Abyss and the opera Antichrist which are influenced by the Theosophy movement and apocalyptical ideas. At the other end of the spectrum is the Third Sonata, conservatively late Romantic, retrospective in tone and optimistic in mood. Gunvor Sihm (violin), Berit Johansen Tange (piano).
