Description: These works for various odd combinations of winds and strings remain rather under-recorded. La Revue (a ballet for kitchen utensils from 1927) and the sextet (1929) are based on jazz musical styles while the 1937 Madrigaux are strikingly more harsh and brittle with a lot of tempo changes and a very free metrical structure. The nonet is one of Martinu's last works (1959) and is reminiscent of his symphonies of the 1940s. Ensemble Villa Musica.
