Description: One of two recordings on this label dedicated to neglected German-Jewish composers of the Romantic period, this now gives us Brüll's symphony of around 1880 to go alongside the Hyperion recording of his piano concerto on our shelves. Brüll was a close friend of Brahms and you might call the symphony "Brahmsian", but not in the way that, say, Herzogenberg and Gernsheim are Brahmsian. The work is lyrical and often introspective, not monumental. However, the youthful Serenade (presumably from around 1870) is very much in the joyful, pastoral style of Brahms' two Serenades. Belarussian State Symphony Orchestra; Marius Stravinsky.
