Description: One good way to get around economic problems is to have a fabulous radio archive from which to draw material never commercially recorded. Requiem (1966) is not a requiem but rather a 54-minute oratorio (in German) telling five stories from the Old Testament (Cain and Abel, Joseph and his brethren, Jephthah and his daughter, Job, Moses on Mt. Sinai) in a dissonant, often violent and expressionistic style. The second disc's works range from the early (1938) first Concertino - breezy and neo-classical and the second of 1958 (dodecaphonic but not so you'd easily notice) - to the later two concertos (both from around 1970), the 18-minute oboe work with its Pastoral and Notturno broken up by two Rondos particularly engrossing. 2 CDs.
