Description: One of the most prolific of baroque composers, Sances was vice-Kapellmeister and Kapellmeister at the imperial court in Vienna from 1649 to his death. These mostly early (late 1630s) motets show a fine melodic talent, familiarity with both up-to-date and older polyphonic techniques and are punctuated by one later work, the ten-minute Stabat Mater, which may be the first example of a chromatic passacaglia.
