IGOR STRAVINSKY (1882-1971): Petrushka, Etude, The Rite of Spring.
Catalogue Number: 04M062
Reference: NI 2577
Description: Stravinsky made these pianola recordings in an apartment in the offices of Pleyel in Paris (they are called "Pleyela Rolls") around 1921. These do not play themselves; the performer must control rhythms and phrasing through athletic footwork on the pianola's pedals although, of course, he needs to do nothing with his hands. An oddity, but a really fun oddity! Rex Lawson (pianola). Original 1994 MusicMasters release.
