Description: Pope was a student of John Ireland and Nadia Boulanger and had some significant successes after World War II before he entered a cult-like religious sect (the Raven-Taylor Brethren) from which he only emerged in 1971, completely forgotten by the musical world. These songs all date from after 1968 and you only have to listen to one to realize that Pope belongs, at least in his song compostions, with any and all of the fine British composers of the 20th century. Chamber works next? Texts included. Susan Legg (mezzo), Ann Martin-Davis (piano).
