Description: Aulin's Master Olof is an adaptation of his five preludes to each act of a play by Strindberg (1908). Lasting 30 minutes, they are big, bold, colorful pieces far from what you probably think of when you hear the words "incidental music", each a miniature tone-poem representing the action to come on the stage. Two previous CD recordings (Sterling in 1987 and Musica Sveciae in 1989) are out of print. The orchestrations of three of five Swedish Dances and Gotland dances (from violin and piano originals) are among Aulin's last works (1910 and 1913) and follow in the tradition of Brahms, Dvorák and Grieg with the Swedish Dances on a much larger scale. Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra; Niklas Willén.
