Description: These ensemble works explore ideas of time and space as malleable, constantly transformed properties, in Rosing-Schow's familiar style, based loosely on the principles of spectralism in which harmony and timbre are interchangeable. Episodes of motoric energy and repeated cells lend solidity and direction to the fluid, plastic sonic explorations. Gardens is a dreamscape, in which a succession of ever more lush landscapes is traversed in shimmering heat-haze, to the accompaniment of cicadas and rustling noise textures. The relatively early (1986) Vocabulary II is based on spatially projected electronically multiplied word fragments, gradually accumulating and interacting with instrumental sounds. The 'Time trilogy' plays with three aspects of time - measured, suspended and fluctuating according to the listener's current engagement with the world. Static, amorphous sound-clouds give way to relentless clockwork motion; solid structures dissolve into microtones or noise textures. Peinture draws an analogy between tone-colored musical processes and the experience of viewing a painting, a process which takes time as the eye travels over the painted surface, the relationship between colors (timbres) never perceived in the same way twice. TM+; Laurent Cuniot (conductor).
