Description: At last, some premiere recordings appear in this series! All four of them derive from the 1932 opera Fanal, set during the Peasants’ War in 1525 Germany. The Nocturnes describe “The Flight to the Executioner’s Cottage”, “The Dream, the March to the Scaffold” and “The Awakening”, all having to do with the rescue of a princess by the unwilling executioner while Vittorioso, originally intended as the fourth movement of the Symphony No. 7 (all of whose motifs were taken from Fanal), was rewritten as a stand-alone concert piece in 1962. Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra; Neeme Järvi.
