Description: This rich and thought-provoking collection offers music by seven very different British women composers. These works for flute – mostly with piano but in one case for a trio of flute, clarinet, and harp – span a period from the last decade of the nineteenth century to the final decades of the twentieth. Varied and inventive, the music is by turns energetic, wistful, humorous, and contemplative. Many of the composers are now little known, however well-received their music was during their lifetimes. What is heard here, then, demonstrates the importance of restoring forgotten music.
