Catalogue Number: 05I053
Description: First recordings of the Vivace, an alternate scherzo for the big, 1890 piano quintet also recorded here, probably rejected by Sibelius because its exubarance would have been out of place with the darker qualities of the work; the Watersprite song of 1888 (3 min.) and the If You Had Seen little melodrama from the same year (4 min.). The longer Nights of Jealousy melodrama (15 min.) is worth hearing for its highly charged emotional mood if you don't have the other recording of it already. Swedish-English texts. Jaakko Juusisto, Laura Vikman (violins), Anna Kreetta Gribajcevic (viola), Joel Lasko (cello), Folke Gräsbeck (piano), Monica Groop (soprano), Lasse Pöysti (recitation).
