Description: In addition to the 1954 "entertainment" written for children and the Edinburgh Festival, Practical Cats, to poems by T.S. Eliot, this new release offers three first recordings: 1967's Theme, Variations and Finale and the 1953 Coronation Overture - both written for youth orchestras and the latter one of the less festive-sounding pieces produced for the Queen's crowning - and the Diptych of 1962, an atmospheric setting of two anonymous texts ("Sodenly afraid" and "Adam lay i-bounden") which makes some use of dodecaphonic material. Simon Callow (narrator), Jeremy Huw Williams (baritone), Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra; David Lloyd-Jones.
