Description: These date from 1935-6, the period of the fifth string quartet and Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta and they are Bartók's only choral works which do not use folk melodies. All the music is his own (having learned folk style as well as any peasant) and the choruses are a compendium of the composer's entire career of research, using canon, counterpoint and imitative techniques with polymodality in a work which continued Kodály's efforts to create a new Hungarian choral repertoire. Hungarian-English texts. Cantemus Children's Choir (Vols. 1-4), Pro Musica Girls' Choir (Vols. 5-8); Dénes Szabó. SACD hybrid
