Description: Only four years separate these two sacred settings but a world of style: Gounod (1855) is archaic in feel, sober and severe, alternating homophony and imitation over an original type of uninterrupted recitative from which a few bars of arioso occasionally emerge; Franck, four years later, in a 42-minute work more than twice as long as Gounod's runs from Palestrinan counterpoint to French grand opera. Franck specialist Joris Lejeune has transcibed the original orchestral version for choir and organ with concertante harp and cello solos, conforming to the forces used by Franck in his motets and offertories. French-English texts. Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne; Michel Corboz.
