Description: Goldmark's suite (1869) is in the form of a baroque French suite - five movements, only the second of which is slow (a Bachian andante) and which updates the minuet with a waltz. Zemlinsky's youthful suite (1895) of five movements is generally cheerful, based on the Romantic tradition with particular Brahmsian influence in the single slow movement. The substantial couplings make for a warm portrait of fin de siècle Vienna. Thomas Albertus Irnberger (violin), Evgeni Sinaisky (piano).
