THEODOR BLUMER (1882-1964): Sextets for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon and Piano, Opp. 45 & 92.
Catalogue Number: 05L082
Label: Antes Edition
Reference: BM-CD 31.9215
Description: Blumer conducted the radio orchestras of Dresden and Leipzig from 1925-42 and wrote many songs, operas and operettas, the latter perhaps helping contribute to the sense of elegance and the lightness of these two piano-and-wind sextets. The first is an 18-minute theme-and-variations from 1921 in which Richard Strauss might peep through now and then; the other is a much larger-scale piece of 37 minutes, dating from 1941 and which has a finale based on an old soldier's song which Bach used in his Peasant Cantata. Aura Ensemble. 2005 release.
