Description: These songs by the noted Mexican symphonist, who worked for years as a craftsman in precious metals and jewels, are jewel-like themselves in their clear, sparkling appeal to the senses. Love poems predominate, and Huízar responds to their direct emotional appeal with music of directly communicative clarity and melodic beauty. Tonal throughout - their more-or-less chronological presentation here suggests a tendency toward a more chromatically inflected vocabulary with time, but the idiom remains conservative - the songs are cast in an European romantic mold, with impressionistic shading. Uncomplicatedly lovely. Spanish, Italian, French-English texts. Patricia Espinosa (soprano), Elías Morales Cariño (piano).
