FREDERICK DELIUS (1862-1934): Appalachia for Baritone, Chorus and Orchestra, The Song of the High Hills for Chorus and Orchestra.
Catalogue Number: 05M044
Description: Barbirolli's 1968 EMI recording is the only other version of Appalachia still available; not to be confused with a shorter, earlier work by the same name for orchestra, this is a 36-minute set of variations from 1902 on an African-American slave song for baritone with final chorus. A 1912 evocation of a Norwegian summer night in the mountains, making use of a wordless chorus at the climax, Song has only two other available versions on disc. Texts included. Andrew Rupp (baritone), BBC Symphony Chorus, BBC Symphony; Sir Andrew Davis. SACD hybrid
