Description: Eshpai's single-movement, 20-minute concerto from 1985-86 is an action-packed, colorful piece with alternations of a Shostakovichian turbulence and grotesquerie and heavenly, enraptured slow passages until a jazz episode breaks out and leads to a triumphal finale. Williams' three short movements are derived from his jazz-inspired score for the film "Catch Me If You Can" while Nyman's is also from a film - Peter Greenaway's "Prospero's Books" and is a 16-minute virtuoso mini-concerto which is full of Nyman's typical rhythmic and melodic musical personality. Jan Schulte-Bunert (sax), Neue Philharmonie Westfalen; Heiko Mathias Förster.
