Description: Baird's cycle sets mediæval French poetry in a melodic style that emulates the authentic style of the troubadours and trouvers, with accompanying figuration that creates a picturesque setting. The Krause pieces are brief and aphoristic, setting Malay folk poetry in small, abstract phrases. Bruzdowicz's Harbour Drawings illuminate the delicate, lyrical poetry of José Gorostiza with flecks of instrumental colour, harmonies and textures chosen to highlight the whimsical ambiguity of the poems' symbolism. Colour and timbre are also important in Luciuk's atmospheric narrative poem compiled from texts by Polish poets. The melodic contours and harmonies exude late-romantic opulence and sensuality. Polish, Malay, Spanish texts. Liliana Górska (mezzo), various artists.
